    Canon Character Section:
    History: Wiki

    Personality:
Spending a thousand years as a demon did not give Anya a great picture of how normal humans interact. On top of that, the other villagers had considered her odd even as a human. She can be very blunt, often saying exactly what she means instead of being tactful or euphemistic. She has very little shame and only the loosest idea of what’s appropriate. She says exactly what she's thinking at any given time.

She's also very greedy and self-centered. She likes it when Xander pays attention to her, not other people. She really likes money and thinks capitalism is a great economic system, though she didn't always feel that way. She likes pretty things and has no qualms about telling people that she wants their stuff. She appreciates things such as recompense for a hard day's work and presents. She is terrified of rabbits, but likes monkeys a lot.

Anya has a lot of trouble dealing with her own mortality. As a demon, she would have lived forever. She already lived a thousand plus years. Now that she's human, her long life is doomed to come crashing to a screeching halt relatively soon. Humans don't live very long, and when they do, they spend the last few years looking wrinkled and unattractive and not being able to do much because their bodies are so worn out. Anya has a lot of trouble with the idea that age and death will happen to her. She finds it terrifying and upsetting. She also doesn't know how to deal with other's deaths. Sure, she's seen many people die, and has killed more than a few of them herself, but the death of someone she cares about is disturbing to her. In "The Body," she talks about how death is stupid and mortal and she doesn't understand it.

Mostly, though, Anya is pretty upbeat. She's seen so much destruction and horror, and caused so much of it, that things that disturb normal people leave her unphased. Though she is certainly capable of being unhappy or angry, most of the time, she's not. She has a tendency to casually talk about the gruesome things she's done in the same way someone might discuss picking up their laundry. It happened, and even if she doesn't do it anymore, she's not exactly repentant.

Anya has a tendency to cling to the things she has. This isn't just about objects, though she certainly shows a tendency towards greediness, but she throws herself full-heartedly into whatever she does. As Aud, she was dedicated to her love of Olaf, though he didn't feel the same way. After she turned him into a troll, vengeance became her life. Though some demons, such as Halfrek, choose to do things outside of work occasionally, Anyanka never did. In the episode Selfless, she claims, "Vengeance is what I am." Her entire identity is based off her job. That makes it that much more devastating when she loses her power center and turns into a human.

Lost and confused, she grabs onto the next thing available, Xander Harris, the man she was sent to curse. She followed him around until he fell for her too, and she becomes Xander's girlfriend. She sings a song, also in Selfless, about how she'll now be his Missis and how she'll never let him go now that she has him. It's a new identity to take on, someone else for her to be. She pins all her hopes on him, and is again shattered when he doesn't pull through. She ends up afloat again, tries to get back into vengeance, finds it's upsetting again, and eventually gives up her powers and decides to find out who she is outside of her jobs or romantic interests.

It takes Anya a while to warm up to the rest of the Scoobies. Her lack of social awareness make her difficult to like, and she doesn't really make much of an effort. She especially tends to clash with Willow. For her part, she knows that Willow is the woman with whom Xander cheated, and she doesn't trust her not to do it again even though Willow is gay now. Willow doesn't much trust the ex-demon with Xander, either, and considering they met when Anya was trying to trick Willow into doing dark magic to reclaim Anya's power center, she has reasons to mistrust her. They eventually get closer, and Anya is part of the inner Scooby circle that works to bring Buffy back from the dead. However, Anya still doesn't hesitate to tell Willow when she thinks she's been using too much magic, or later, that Willow should just start using it again to break out of the house within which they're trapped. Willow tries to help Anya when the vengeance is getting out of control in early Season 7. Though they eventually warm up to each other, they never end up best of friends.

Though it was Giles, not Buffy, who destroyed Anya's power center, Buffy is the Slayer and Slayers are traditionally fairly anti-demon. They are awkward around each other at first, and Buffy doesn't take her relationship with Xander seriously, thinking he was just taking advantage of her unquestioning devotion. After her relationship with Riley ends she changes her mind and looks to them as a beacon of hope, that love can actually last, and that they have to work out because her relationship didn't. She and Anya grow closer through the seasons until Buffy considers her one of her best friends. That friendship isn't enough to stop Buffy from trying to kill Anya when she learns of what Anya's been doing as a demon, but she does later work to save Anya's life after she's given up her demon powers. Anya resents that a little because she was trying to be her own person, but on the other hand, she doesn't want to die, so she accepts Buffy's help.

Anya doesn't care for Giles at first. He is stuffy and British and fairly responsible for her lack of demon powers. She also finds his stories and lectures boring, and she doesn't hesitate to tell him. They don't get along very well in Season 4, but in Season 5 he hires her on at his store, the Magic Box. Her knowledge of demons and the arcane, plus her extreme aptitude with money make her a great employee. The shop gives her a new purpose in life, and she grows closer to Giles, to the point that he leaves her the store when he goes to England. Though she makes sure to tell him he can't have the store when he returns to America, she still has a great deal of affection for him. But his lectures are still boring.

Though Anya and Spike don't talk much, occasionally the two of them run into each other when they both are feeling pretty low about their lot in life and commiserate over how stupid life is and how much easier things were when they could both just kill the people who made them miserable. They have a lot in common, what with both being former threats that are now incapacitated, and being outsiders to the fairly tight-knit group. They also both have a certain bluntness, though Anya's is more thoughtless while Spike's is often somewhat mean.

Anya isn't very good with children, as is demonstrated by her relationship with Dawn. Dawn is a teenager when she first shows up, but Anya treats her like a very young child. Though this irks Dawn, Anya doesn't really notice and continues to do it.

Really, Xander and Giles are the two people who help her most in growing accustomed to human life. Willow mostly argues with her, and Buffy has other things to worry about most of the time. Xander, though, takes the time to teach her about human ways and correct her when she's being even more socially inept than usual. Giles offers her a job, and teaches her how enjoyable earning money is. Selling things to customers is what really teaches her how to be at least somewhat less blunt as customers have a tendency to not buy things if the shopkeeper berates them. She never fully loses her strangeness, but she does learn to fit in a little bit better.

At Anya's canon point, she is currently struggling with her dual identity as the demon Anyanka and the human Anya Jenkins. She spent thousands of years famous for her cruelty when dealing with men, but she's conflicted now. She has just spent several years as a human and fallen in love again. Xander betrayed her, as she half-expected he would since she has seen so many centuries of human males behaving at their worst, but she isn't the same person she was. She can't just kill with abandon, even though a part of her wants to. She's struggling with feelings of guilt that she's more or less kept at bay for a thousand years. She's not convinced anymore that vengeance is the righteous cause she once thought it was, so her performance has been pretty lackluster compared to before. She even stopped short of letting Spike make a vengeance wish that would have let her get her revenge on Xander, since she can't make it herself. She also has some extra respect for Xander since he saved the world, but she's still very hurt, and very angry. She also still loves him, which makes everything even more complicated. There are also some feelings of bitterness towards the other Scoobies as they didn't really stand by her in her hour of need. Admittedly, it's because she turned into a murderous demon again, and thus the enemy, but it still hurts. The sting from being left at the alter has worn off a little, but she doesn't really know who she is anymore. She has a tendency to define herself around one thing, be it vengeance or Xander or the Magic Box, and she's lost all of those things. She doesn't really know who she is anymore, and she's conflicted about how much she wants to be Anyanka the Vengeance Demon again.

Losing her powers will actually be a relief in some ways. She's under a lot of pressure to keep up after her less than stellar return to demonhood, and without her powers, that pressure will be gone. She'll still be pissed off, of course. She's back to being weak little mortal Anya, and that's not nearly as fun. She will feel a little better when she finds out Buffy doesn't have powers either because it means that at least it's not a her being fired thing. She may not love the vengeance game like she once did, but she still wants to do her best.

Being forced to confront her damage will be painful for her to come to grips with. She probably will try and convince herself (and any deities that come around) that it was justified and shouldn't count against her. She doesn't entirely believe this, and eventually she will own up to it and even start trying to work it off. The sheer size of her debt will be incredibly off-putting to her, though, and she may get impatient about it. She is in prime position to actually start her redemption right now, but she's still Anya. Patience is not one of her strong suits, and this is an awful lot of work for no real pay. Can't they measure their debt in cash?

Powers/Abilties: As a demon, Anyanka had the ability to grant wishes. This power had no known limit, and Anyanka has done everything from summoning demons to transforming humans to creating entire alternate realities. Generally speaking, though, these wishes are supposed to do more harm than good. She is stronger than humans and can teleport, plus she has some sort of telekinesis. In addition to her veiny demonic appearance, she can appear as human. She can sense the psychic cries wronged women. She's also immortal and cannot be killed by what would on anyone else be a mortal wound. Also, she's very good with money, and a decent fighter. She's also very skilled at games like Poker, Life, and Monopoly.

    Appearance: Bunnies frighten her.

    CR AU
Game You’re Transferring CR from: TELEIOS.

How has your character changed from their canon self? She wasn't in Teleios for long, so personality wise she hasn't changed that much. She's started to question whether she even wants her vengeance powers back a little bit, but it's mostly been interior thoughts that she doesn't voice. She also has spent a few months hanging out with a dragon and basically being his accountant. There have probably been a few not-so-successful escape attempts. Some congenial chatting about how awesome money is. At least one awkward discussion of the state of her virginity (spoiler, shellshocked once she comes back but this doesn't even make it into her top ten bad things that have happened to her. She'll be okay.

Are they gaining any abilities from their time in game? Did the game setting take something from them? Nope!
